6 Hear my prayer, Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. 7 When I am in distress, I call to you, because you answer me.
This psalm is a heartfelt prayer of David during a time of distress. In the earlier verses, David has expressed his trust in God’s character—His goodness, mercy, and readiness to forgive. Now, in verse 6, David humbly and desperately pleads with God to listen. He’s not approaching with arrogance or entitlement—he’s asking for mercy, not merit.
There will be moments in your life when all you can do is cry out. You might not have perfect words, or even understand exactly what you need. But God invites us to bring even those raw, messy prayers to Him. David’s example shows that the Lord isn’t looking for polished prayers—He’s looking for honest hearts. When you call to Him in humility, He listens. Right now, whatever you’re carrying, you can say, “Lord, hear my prayer.” And He will.
