16 He spreads the snow like wool and scatters the frost like ashes.17 He hurls down his hail like pebbles. Who can withstand his icy blast?
Psalm 147 praises God for His power, wisdom, and care over creation and His people. Verses 15–18 focus on God’s control over the weather, showing that every snowflake and frost crystal is part of His design. The imagery in verse 16 likens snow to a warm, soft covering of wool, and frost to a scattering of ashes—pictures that point to God’s beauty, gentleness, and authority in nature. For Israel, this was a reminder that the same God who governs the skies also governs their lives.
Every winter scene is a quiet sermon about God’s sovereignty. The snow doesn’t choose where it falls; the frost doesn’t scatter on its own—it’s all directed by God. In the same way, nothing in your life happens outside of His wise and loving control. When the cold seasons of life come, remember: just as snow eventually melts and gives way to spring, your trials have an appointed time. Until then, trust the One who orders every flake, every season, and every step of your journey.
